HOW DOES CEDA KNOW ABOUT SUFFERING FROM AN EATING DISORDER?

Who suffers with eating disorders? Young girls? Yes. Women of all ages? Certainly. Men too? Oh, yes.

In fact, you don't have to be a particular age, gender or race to suffer with an eating disorder, just as you don't have to be a particular size, shape or weight either.

But who else suffers? At CEDA we have realised through our own experience that everyone affected by an eating disorder suffers. Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and other family members; partners, lovers and friends; along with concerned professionals such as teachers, employers and health care workers - all these suffer too as they try desperately to understand just how best to help and - often - just simply how to cope.

CEDA aims to offer information and support for everyone affected by the feelings of isolation and powerlessness around an eating disorder. You are not alone - and, together, we can make a difference.
We would remind you in the most friendly way, to familiarise yourself with the limitations and copyright pages on our site at some point during your visits.

PARENTS ARE NOT THE CAUSE

Parents are not the cause of disorders. Eating disorders are associated with emotional problems and are closely related to many other health related issues, such as depression, low self-esteem, physical and sexual abuse, substance abuse, and problems at home or with friends. Many factors, including genetics, can increase the likelihood that a child will develop an eating disorder.
