Formation and Development
CEDA formed in 2000 as a small group of carers and sufferers lobbying the then Health
Authority to accept the need for a specialist Eating Disorder Service in the county.
During
2001/2 Cornwall & IOS Health Authority adopted a 5 year development plan (funds not
guaranteed) for a community based service. The small group of carers and sufferers
formed into a charity and a company limited by guarantee and the Health Authority
gave them a small amount of money. This was given to enable CEDA to become a source
of information, support and assistance for people suffering from eating disorders
in the county.
The Health Authority has now changed into three Primary Care Trusts
alongside whom CEDA continues to work, encouraging and lobbying them to continue
to allocate development funds to the service and informing them of carers and sufferers
concerns.
The Chairman of CEDA is also the lay chair of the Eating Disorder Service
Implementation Group (a multidisciplinary group of health professionals with responsibility
for the strategy and development of the service).
The strength of the relationship
between the service and the voluntary sector is unprecedented anywhere in the country;
and we believe working alongside each other, respecting each other, and acknowledging
we all have a part to play in treatment is the way forward to help people in Cornwall,
and their families, recover from an eating disorder.
